The objective of Janadani is to create awareness in the society about sexual harassment, rape and unnatural sexual behaviour and act to prevent them.
Smt Jayalaxmi Patil, a noted Kannada TV and theatre artist and a writer, gave a call to act against this social evil, after the national outrage that followed the brutal rape of Nirbhaya in a moving bus in New Delhi on 16 Dec 2012. A few of her friends on Facebook, responded to her call and supported her efforts in forming JANADANI.
Janadani was formalized in August 2015 by registering itself as a Charitable Trust with six trustees.
Janadani organises awareness programs, about its objective, in play homes and primary schools for the parents of the children; in high schools and colleges for students, in orphanages for their inmates and in any private or public organization for all; and in fact for all the people in every home in the country.
Janadani has already started its campaign in the right earnest.
Those who want to invite Janadani to organize awareness programs have to inform Janadani at least fifteen days in advance. A three hour slot needs be reserved for each such program.
“Let us change the System for well-being of the society within and outside our homes” is the motto of Janadani.
